Our center, under the guidance of its administration and as part of its ongoing scientific activities, held a workshop on ” Probiotics ” on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. Organized by the workshops and seminars committee and managed by Assistant Lecturer Ali Kamel Wannas, the session was presented by Assistant Lecturer Fatima Hussein. The workshop detailed probiotic bacteria, explaining their direct and indirect roles in maintaining and improving human health through their metabolic activity and secreted products. Benefits discussed included pathogen competition, immune system stimulation, and mitigation of antibiotic side effects. The different forms of these bacteria were also described, along with their preventive and therapeutic effects. The lecture aimed to: 1) Define probiotics, their types, mechanisms of action, benefits, and forms; 2) Emphasize the importance of these microorganisms in maintaining human health; and 3) Clarify their role in resisting and treating common human diseases. The presenter recommended: probiotic use should be under medical supervision, particularly for complex illnesses; consuming lactic acid bacteria may help prevent superficial bladder cancer; consuming milk and fermented dairy products may help prevent rectal and colon cancer; and future research should explore developing Lactobacillus-based vaccines for preventing tooth decay in children. We wish our center’s teachers continued success in serving the community, science, and knowledge.
