As part of an ongoing effort to enhance academic performance and elevate institutional operations, the Director of the Natural History Research Center and Museum at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Harith Saeed Al-Ward, held an extensive periodic meeting with faculty members on Sunday, October 18, 2026. The meeting addressed several scientific, technical, and administrative topics included on the agenda.
The Director opened the session by welcoming the attendees and commending the faculty and staff for their efforts in successfully implementing the Center’s scientific and research plans. He emphasized the importance of continuing to work with a unified team spirit, which contributes to improving institutional performance and strengthening the Center’s standing in the scientific and research community.
The meeting covered several key areas, most notably a review of plans for publishing research in reputable international journals indexed in recognized scientific databases. Discussions also focused on advancing research activities to support scientific inquiry and meet the institution’s aspirations, as well as ways to develop laboratory infrastructure and provide the necessary resources for specialized experiments and research.
Furthermore, the Director listened to the views and suggestions of the faculty regarding administrative workflows and strategies to overcome obstacles faced by various committees. He underscored the necessity of adhering to established timelines for completing assigned tasks and duties, ensuring that institutional goals are achieved with efficiency and effectiveness. Regarding the technical aspects and the development of museum services, the Center’s Director directed that all specimens—both those on display and those in storage—be digitized. This includes generating a QR code for each specimen, which will facilitate the electronic documentation, classification, and archiving of data, while allowing researchers, students, and visitors to easily access scientific and descriptive information about each item. This initiative is part of a broader effort to embrace digital transformation and leverage modern technology to preserve museum collections, enhance exhibition methods, and maximize their scientific and educational value.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the floor was opened for attendees to pose questions, offer suggestions, and exchange views on ways to improve operations. The discussion was highly constructive, reflecting a shared commitment to ongoing collaboration and coordination as the Center moves forward toward achieving its scientific, research, and administrative objectives.
This activity aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
