Continuing our commitment to scientific exploration, our center recently hosted a captivating field trip to Al-Zawraa Park led by Assistant Professor Dr. Hana Hani Al-Saffar on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024. This collaborative venture involved a research team of dedicated teachers from the Natural History Research Center and Museum at the University of Baghdad, representing various scientific departments:
Department of Vertebrates
Department of Insects and Invertebrates
Department of Plants and Environment
Department of Ichthyology
Our mission: Collect diverse biological samples to enrich research projects and expand Iraqi collections of animal and plant specimens. Additionally, we aimed to contribute to the development of a comprehensive database documenting Iraq’s vibrant biodiversity.
Al-Zawraa Park, brimming with remarkable biodiversity, proved to be the perfect environment for this endeavor. The dedicated team successfully collected numerous valuable specimens, including:
A range of invertebrate models
Diverse fish species
Unique natural plants
This fruitful collaboration exemplifies the importance of interdepartmental cooperation in advancing scientific understanding. The collected samples will not only contribute to ongoing research but also serve as valuable additions to Iraqi collections, enhancing our knowledge of the nation’s rich biodiversity.
We extend our gratitude to Dr. Hana Hani Al-Saffar for her leadership and to the entire research team for their dedication and expertise. Such collaborative efforts pave the way for a deeper understanding of Iraq’s natural world and inspire future generations of scientists.
We wish everyone continued success in serving the community, science, and knowledge
