On February 19th, 2024, a workshop hosted by our center delved into the critical issue of violence against women (VAW). Organized by Assit. Prof.Dr. Hana Hani Al-Saffar and Lecturer. Muhammad Enad Ghazaun, the event highlighted the various forms of VAW, their detrimental effects, and potential solutions.
Defining VAW and its Impact
The workshop underscored that VAW encompasses any act of gender-based discrimination or violence, inflicting physical, psychological, or sexual harm on women. This includes depriving them of rights, controlling their lives, and issuing threats. These acts not only violate women’s freedom and hinder their fundamental rights but also harm families and society as a whole.
VAW: A Global Phenomenon
The presentation stressed that VAW transcends specific societies, cultures, or social classes. It is a pervasive issue requiring collaborative efforts to address its root causes and consequences.
Seeking Solutions, Building a Brighter Future
The workshop’s primary objective was to identify the social, economic, and financial factors contributing to VAW. By acknowledging these complex problems, the event aimed to stimulate the development of effective solutions across different levels.
Striving for Positive Change
This workshop represents our center’s commitment to tackling crucial social issues and promoting positive change. By raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and seeking practical solutions, we can work towards a future free from violence and discrimination, where women’s rights and dignity are fully respected.
