On April 7, 2024, a workshop titled “Women’s Rights Through the Ages” was held as part of our center’s scientific activities. The event was co-organized by the Women’s Affairs Committee and the committee for holding workshops and seminars. Assistant Professor Dr. Hana Hani Al-Saffar, Head of the Women’s Affairs Committee, and Senior Biologist Ibtisam Jassim Reda delivered the informative session.
The workshop delved into the evolution of women’s rights in Iraq across various historical periods.
Ancient Civilizations: The lecture explored the role of women in Sumerian, Assyrian, and Akkadian societies, highlighting their potential influence.
The Code of Hammurabi: This ancient legal code was acknowledged for its provisions that addressed women’s rights and responsibilities.
Islam and Women’s Rights: The workshop discussed how Islam honors women and grants them specific rights, emphasizing their importance within society.
The overall aim was to provide a historical perspective on the experiences of women in Iraq. Understanding the past can inform discussions about women’s rights in the present and future.
The event concluded with a message of continued dedication from our center to serving society through scientific exploration and knowledge sharing.
