The center’s workshops and seminars committee, under the guidance of Center Director, Assistant Professor Dr. Hana Hani Al-Saffar, held a discussion session on “Insect Allergy” on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Moderated by Assistant Lecturer Ali Kamel Wanas, the session was presented by Assistant Lecturer Fatima Hussein.<\/p>\n
Ms. Hussein detailed the types of allergy-causing insects, including stinging insects (bees, wasps, fire ants), biting insects, and household insects. She explained that stinging insects inject venom, which while typically causing localized reactions, can in some cases lead to severe, even life-threatening, allergic reactions. She also highlighted potential complications, such as kidney and liver damage from multiple stings, and the increased danger of stings to the face.<\/p>\n
The session aimed to educate attendees on the range of bodily reactions to insect bites and stings, from minor to severe, and to emphasize the importance of prompt treatment and prevention. Participants learned how to identify the type and location of insect-related injuries to facilitate appropriate intervention and were introduced to common household insects to promote avoidance. The overall goal was to raise public awareness of insect allergies.<\/p>\n
The discussion session concluded with the following recommendations:<\/p>\n
1. Seek medical advice before starting any treatment.
\n2. Recognize the seriousness of insect allergies, as some reactions can be fatal.
\n3. Consider administering immunotherapy or allergy injections at home.
\n4. Prioritize cleanliness as a crucial factor in preventing insect-borne illnesses.
\n5. Encourage future involvement from relevant authorities in this field.<\/p>\n
