As part of our center’s ongoing scientific activities, and under the guidance of our administration, the Workshops and Seminars Committee, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Hana Hani Al-Saffar, organized a discussion session on Monday, March 10, 2025. The session, titled “The Use of Organic Insect Powders in Fish Feed” was moderated by Assistant Lecturer Ali Kamel Wannas and presented by Lecturer Muhammad Inad Ghazwan.<\/p>\n

Professor Ghazwan highlighted the global shift towards safe protein sources for humans and animals. He emphasized the critical role of protein in bodily functions and the increasing need for sustainable alternatives. Insects, representing a vast resource, offer a promising solution. He introduced the concept of “insect protein,” noting its high nutritional value, complete amino acid profile, easy digestibility, and environmentally friendly metabolic byproducts compared to traditional animal protein sources.<\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to promote the cultivation of nutritionally rich insects using organic waste. This approach offers economic benefits, reduces waste, and creates a valuable protein source for both human and animal consumption, contributing to environmental conservation and sustainable development.<\/p>\n

Key recommendations from the workshop include:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Utilizing insects as a natural feed source for farm animals, including fish.<\/li>\n
  2. Recycling human food waste to feed commercial insects, providing a sustainable, high-quality protein source.<\/li>\n
  3. Promoting environmental sustainability through the utilization of naturally abundant, rapidly decomposing resources.<\/li>\n
  4. Encouraging research into natural, pollution-free alternative feeds, particularly focusing on local commercial insects.<\/li>\n
  5. Addressing animal protein needs, including fish, with cost-effective insect protein, thereby reducing competition with human food sources.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
