Led by the esteemed Dr. Zainab Alwan Makkawi, Head of the Department of Insects and Invertebrates, this insightful session explored the historical significance and continued impact of this parasitic disease.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Leishmaniasis: A Global Public Health Concern<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Leishmaniasis isn&#8217;t a relic of the past. It remains one of the ten most prevalent infectious diseases globally, plaguing nations across Africa, South America, Central America, Southwest Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. In Iraq, it&#8217;s unfortunately considered endemic, with Dhi Qar Governorate in southern Iraq bearing the brunt of its health burden.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Makkawi&#8217;s insightful workshop shed light on:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The historical origins of Leishmaniasis: Delving into the past to understand its emergence and evolution.<br \/>\nThe disease&#8217;s significance in Iraq: Highlighting its prevalence and the challenges faced by the nation.<br \/>\nThe parasite&#8217;s impact on public health: Emphasizing the need for awareness, prevention, and effective treatment strategies.<br \/>\nOur Commitment to Knowledge and Service<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At our center, we believe in the power of knowledge to combat health challenges like Leishmaniasis.
