A committee from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research evaluated the safety readiness of laboratories and storage facilities for chemical, biological, and radiological materials during their visit to the Natural History Research Center and Museum at the University of Baghdad on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
The ministerial team comprised Dr. Samer Atta Qasim, Mr. Al-Hussein Mohammed Jabbar, and Ms. Ghusoun Shamil. They were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Khansaa Rashid Majeed, the Head of the Botany and Environment Department; Asst. Prof. Dr. Hind Diaa Hadi, the Head of the Fish Department; and Ms. Israa Ali Mohsen, a member of the Center’s chemical committee.
During their tour, the committee examined laboratory operations and chemical storage areas. They reviewed forms and comprehensive inventory lists of available chemicals, focusing on compliance with safety and security standards for chemical, biological, and radiological materials, as well as hazardous and dual-use substances.
At the end of their visit, the committee praised the management and staff of the Center for their dedication to maintaining high standards of professionalism and safety, observing that these efforts exemplify the University of Baghdad’s commitment to fostering a safe and exemplary research and educational atmosphere.
This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically: Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
