As part of the scientific activities conducted by our center, and with the support and guidance of the center’s director, Assistant Professor Dr. Hanaa Hani Al-Saffar, the Workshops and Seminars Committee organized a workshop on Sunday, November 16, 2025, titled “Practical Initiatives for Rationalizing Energy and Water Consumption Towards a Sustainable Future.” The workshop was facilitated by Assistant Lecturer Ali Kamel Wanas and presented by Assistant Lecturer Hiba Mohammed Jihad.

The workshop focused on the importance of rationalizing energy and water consumption, key initiatives in the energy and water sectors, and methods for improving the efficiency of buildings and public facilities. Its goals included:

1. Raising community awareness about the importance of conserving energy and water.
2. Reviewing the environmental and economic benefits of rationalizing consumption.
3. Highlighting modern technologies that support energy and water conservation.
4. Encouraging individual and community behaviors that contribute to resource sustainability, with a focus on promoting daily practices that help conserve energy and water.
5. Urging relevant authorities to adopt policies that support sustainability.
6. Fostering cooperation between local communities and institutions to create a sustainable environment through education and community engagement.

Key Outcomes of the Workshop:
1. Enhanced community awareness and the recognition of the need for ongoing educational programs in schools and the media about the importance of energy and water conservation and its impact on the future of our natural resources.
2. Implementation of supportive legislation and policies, including the issuance and enforcement of laws that require institutions and new buildings to use energy-efficient and water-efficient systems, with penalties for excessive waste.
3. Promotion of scientific research and innovation by supporting research related to low-cost desalination technologies, smart irrigation systems, and energy efficiency tools to develop sustainable local solutions.
4. Encouragement of investment in desalination projects utilizing renewable energy sources.
