The workshop and seminar committee at our center, with the support of Assistant Professor Dr. Hana Hani Al-Saffar, organized a session on “Cartilaginous Fish and Their Differences from Chondrichthyes” on April 7, 2025. During the lecture, moderated by Assistant Professor Ali Kamel Wannas and delivered by Assistant Lecturer Maab Riyad Sajit and Assistant Lecturer Suhad Hamza Muhammad Ali, the characteristics of cartilaginous fish were discussed in the context of increased migratory fish in Iraqi marine environments. A central focus was the need for research to understand the presence of these fish in Iraqi rivers and to reconcile differing expert opinions on their potential economic value versus the necessity of their protection within Iraq’s aquatic biodiversity.
