on May 28, 2025 – A delegation from the Natural History Research Center and Museum visited the Al-Kafeel Museum of Treasures and Manuscripts today to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation between Iraqi museum institutions. The visit aimed to facilitate the exchange of expertise and advance museum practices across the nation.
The delegation from the Natural History Research Center included Assistant Professor Dr. Hana Hani Abdul Hussein Al-Saffar, Director of the Center and member of the upcoming conference’s preparatory committee, along with Assistant Professor Dr. Zainab Abdul Aoun, lecturer Suhad Yassin Jassim, and an assistant. Lecturer Noor Hussein Yousif, Senior Biologist Ibtisam Jassim Redha, and Senior Agricultural Engineers Batoul Abdul Redha Al-Wazzan.

Upon their arrival at the Al-Abbas’s Holy Shrine’s Al-Kafeel Museum, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Nafi’ Al-Moussawi, Head of the Al-Kafeel Museum Department, and Professor Dr. Shawqi Al-Moussawi. A comprehensive tour provided the visitors with an in-depth look at the museum’s operations.

A key objective of the visit was to discuss potential collaboration, particularly regarding the Second International Conference on Biodiversity and Wildlife, which the Natural History Research Center will host in November 2025. The center is seeking support from the Holy Shrine for this significant event.

During the tour, the delegation gained valuable insights into the museum’s meticulous processes, including the documentation and archiving of artifacts, storage methods for preservation, and scientific restoration and maintenance techniques. They also observed the innovative ways the museum displays its collection for visitors.
Finally, Dr. Al-Saffar extended her sincere gratitude to the Al-Kafeel Museum administrators for their hospitality. She expressed a strong desire to strengthen ties with the Al-Abbas’s Holy Shrine Museum, acknowledging its significant capabilities within Iraq and the broader region.
