The Women’s Affairs Committee at the Natural History Research Center and Museum, University of Baghdad, represented by its chair, Assistant Professor Dr. Hanaa Hani Al-Saffar, Director of the Center, organized a workshop entitled “Iraqi Women Facing Various Challenges” on Thursday, March 5, 2026. The workshop was led and presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Hanaa Hani Al-Saffar, with the participation of Assistant Lecturer Khalida Ibrahim Hassoun and Assistant Lecturer Noor Hussein Yousef.
Iraqi Women Facing Various Challenges. The workshop was part of the scientific activities organized by the center under the guidance of the Women’s Affairs Division at the University of Baghdad.
During the workshop, the events experienced by Iraqi women over the years were reviewed, highlighting prominent figures in the military field, such as Brigadier General Angham Al-Tamimi and world tennis champion Najla Emad. Despite their diverse fields of expertise, these women demonstrated women’s ability to confront challenges and difficulties, focusing on achieving success and goals that reflect the image of Iraqi women. The workshop aimed to identify the obstacles (social, security, and economic) hindering their progress, support their role in facing challenges and circumstances, enhance their participation in decision-making, and finally, understand the motivations behind their work despite difficult conditions, such as supporting families and achieving empowerment and equality.
One of the most important outcomes of the workshop was the importance of not being swayed by the social and economic conditions they face and the necessity of confronting fears and challenges to be able to fulfill their responsibilities towards society and their families, and to create a generation capable of working constructively and building a better future for all. We wish all the teachers at our center success and good fortune in serving the community, science, and knowledge.
