The Natural History Research and Museum Center at the University of Baghdad, with the support and guidance of the center’s director, Assistant Professor Dr. Hanaa Hani Al-Saffar, organized a field trip to Wasit Governorate, specifically Al-Dubouni District, and its surrounding areas on Friday, May 1, 2026. Numerous animal and plant specimens were collected to fulfill the requirements of the scientific research.
Given the region’s remarkable biodiversity, the trip was conducted by Assistant Lecturer Noor Hussein Yousif from the Vertebrates Department.
The field trip aimed to collect biological samples to complete the research plan, enrich the center’s collection of Iraqi animal and plant specimens, and establish a database of biodiversity in Iraq. The field survey was conducted in fruitful cooperation with residents. It is recommended that field surveys be conducted in various geographical areas within Al-Dubouni District, including the Al-Shuwaija Marsh, which boasts a rich biological and environmental diversity, including the presence of wild birds and some fish species. This activity contributes to Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 15 (Life on Land), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
We wish everyone success in serving the community, science, and knowledge.
