The Natural History Research and Museum Center at the University of Baghdad, with the support and guidance of the center’s director, Assistant Professor Dr. Hanaa Hani Al-Saffar, organized a scientific field trip to Wasit Governorate/Zurbatiya and its surrounding areas on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Samples of insects, invertebrates, fish, and native plants were collected, given the area’s distinctive biodiversity. The team consisted of:

The scientific trip aimed to collect biological samples to fulfill the requirements of the research plan, as well as to enrich the Iraqi collection of both animal and plant specimens and to establish a database of biodiversity in Iraq. The field survey was a success, marked by fruitful cooperation.

This activity contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 15 (Life on Land), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
