The Natural History Research Center and Museum at the University of Baghdad held a ceremony today to honor the Head of the Vertebrates Department, Prof. Dr. Afkar Muslim Hadi, upon her retirement. The event was hosted by the Center’s Director, Prof. Dr. Hanaa Hani Abdul-Hussein, coinciding with the celebration of Iraqi Sovereignty Day, and was attended by members of the Center’s academic and administrative staff.
The ceremony began with speeches commending the honorees’ outstanding contributions throughout their years of service. Speakers praised the Department Head’s role in advancing the department’s academic and administrative trajectory, as well as the faculty member’s scholarly and educational contributions, which enriched the Center’s research and teaching endeavors.
The event concluded with the presentation of an honorary plaque and a certificate of appreciation, followed by the taking of commemorative photos in an atmosphere of warmth and mutual respect. It was emphasized that their scholarly and personal impact would remain a lasting legacy at the Center.
