The Natural History Research Center and Museum at the University of Baghdad held an official academic ceremony today, Sunday, October 4, 2026, to mark Iraqi Sovereignty Day. Attended by the Center’s Director, Prof. Dr. Hanaa Hani Abdul-Hussein, along with department heads, researchers, and staff, the event highlighted this glorious national occasion and the pivotal milestone it represents in Iraq’s modern history.
The ceremony began with the playing of the national anthem and the recitation of *Surat Al-Fatiha* in tribute to the souls of Iraq’s martyrs. This was followed by an opening address emphasizing the importance of consolidating the concept of national sovereignty through the advancement of scientific research, national capacity building, and the preservation of the country’s environmental, cultural, and sovereign heritage.
The event featured a series of lectures and cultural segments exploring the dimensions of Iraqi sovereignty and the role of academic and research institutions in supporting stability and sustainable development. It concluded with the honoring of distinguished researchers and staff members in recognition of their dedicated contributions to the nation and the research institution.
The proceedings ended with a reaffirmation by the attendees of their commitment to continued scientific and research excellence, ensuring the Center remains a national landmark that contributes to Iraq’s advancement and the safeguarding of its assets.
