The Center for Natural Research and Natural History at the University of Baghdad, with the support of the Center’s Director, Assistant Professor Dr. Hanaa Hani Al-Saffar, organized a workshop entitled “The digestive system and the effect of pollutants on fish nutrition” on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The workshop was facilitated by Assistant Lecturer Ali Kamel Wanas and Assistant Lecturer Maab Riyadh Sajit, with the participation of Assistant Dr. Hind Dhia Hadi and Assistant Lecturer Sad Hamza Mohammed Ali.

This workshop focused on highlighting fish diseases, specifically the digestive system and its natural feeding relationship, emphasizing how this system affects aquatic diversity (aquatic pollutants vary in their feeding behavior and nutritional requirements, both in terms of implementation and quality), leading to specific functional divisions within the system. The workshop also addressed the detrimental effects of various infrastructural factors, poor nutrition, and general factors affecting fish. The workshop’s most important point was that fish health is crucial for aquatic health. The increasing use of new equipment directly improves feeding efficiency, growth, and survival rates, necessitating enhanced environmental awareness. This includes addressing issues like pollution and weak fibers, ensuring proper industrial and waste disposal before they reach main water bodies, and preventing toxins that disrupt the food chain and lead to underutilization of the product.

The workshop focused on the goals of developing work: Goal 4: Quality Education, and Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. We wish our center continued success in serving the community, science, and knowledge.
