On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Dr. Hanaa Hani Al-Saffar, Assistant Professor and Director of the Natural History Research and Museum Center at the University of Baghdad, received Dr. Hassan Hani Atoub Al-Janabi, the former Minister of Water Resources and former Iraqi Ambassador to Turkey, and Professor Dr. Mu’taz Anad Ghazwan from the Design Department at the College of Fine Arts, University of Baghdad. During the visit, the two parties were briefed on the center and its scientific and technical aspects in the pure sciences. They also toured the center’s library, where they viewed its valuable collection of books dating back to 1822, as well as its holdings of periodicals and scientific publications in the field of natural history. This was followed by a tour of the exhibition hall, which showcased its specialized scientific sections on vertebrates and invertebrates, botany, and earth sciences.

During the tour, Mr. Muhammad Anad Ghazwan, a lecturer in the Fisheries Department, provided a detailed explanation of the types of river and regional fish found in Iraq. He pointed to the state of fish stocks in Iraq, including endangered native Iraqi species and introduced species in Iraqi waters.

The visit aimed to familiarize the visitor with the museum as a prominent cultural and scientific landmark with a rich history of significant scientific achievements.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Hassan Al-Janabi commended the scientific services provided by the center and emphasized the necessity of scientific and administrative cooperation through establishing relationships with relevant ministries specializing in this venerable cultural institution. This cooperation aims to improve and develop the museum, given its importance in preserving the biological heritage of our beloved country. This activity contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
