As part of an ongoing commitment to developing the infrastructure of scientific and research institutions—and enhancing the efficiency of university facilities that support scientific research and the preservation of natural heritage—staff from the University of Baghdad’s Department of Construction and Projects (Bab Al-Mu’azzam campus) conducted a field visit to the Natural History Research Center and Museum. The delegation included the Resident Engineer for the Bab Al-Mu’azzam complex, Assistant Professor Haitham Jameel Abed, along with senior engineers Marwa Ghanim and Safa Ibrahim.
During the visit, the team met with the Director of the Natural History Research Center and Museum, Professor Harith Saeed Jaafar. They examined the current state of the center and museum, identified their technical and engineering requirements, and conducted an on-site assessment of the infrastructure and facilities. This evaluation will serve as the basis for preparing the necessary engineering specifications for rehabilitation and development projects. These efforts aim to foster an environment conducive to scientific and research activities, improve the preservation conditions for historical and natural specimens, and enhance the services provided to researchers, students, and visitors.
This visit underscores the importance of aligning engineering infrastructure with the specialized scientific needs of the Natural History Research Center and Museum. It further supports the center’s mission—encompassing scientific research, documentation, the preservation of natural diversity, and the care of museum collections—thereby reinforcing its status as a significant scientific and cultural landmark within the University of Baghdad. This activity supports Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) of the Sustainable Development Goals by developing and upgrading the infrastructure of the Natural History Research Center and Museum. It also aligns with Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by contributing to the preservation of museum collections and natural heritage, and by enhancing the sustainability of the facilities.
