In alignment with the national afforestation initiative launched by the Prime Minister’s Office, in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, under the supervision of the University of Baghdad, and with the support of the Center’s Director, Professor Dr. Harith Saeed Jaafar, the Women’s Affairs Committee—in collaboration with the Agricultural Committee—at the Natural History Research Center and Museum (University of Baghdad) organized an extensive tree-planting campaign. The initiative involved planting a large number of diverse saplings across the Center’s outdoor spaces and gardens, with active participation from all faculty members and staff.
This campaign serves as a practical step toward expanding green spaces within the university campus. Such efforts contribute to purifying the air and fostering a healthy educational environment, while also raising environmental awareness among students and encouraging them to adopt sustainable practices to protect the environment.
The Agricultural Committee, which oversaw the implementation of the campaign, carefully selected tree, plant, and flower species well-suited to the climate and environmental conditions of Iraq and the Baghdad Governorate. The objective is to mitigate pollution, promote a culture of sustainability, and enhance the university environment.
This activity supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely: Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Goal 15 (Life on Land), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
